Magnolia the Florist - Guide for caring for your flowers

At Magnolia the Florist, we have specially prepared your floral arrangement for you. We have compiled this guide to some practices to improve your flower vase life and recommend the following generally; however, different varieties may often have individual requirements.

Please avoid putting flowers in direct sunlight, draughts or hot locations.  Always use the flower food provided with clean water. Also, avoid placing them near ripening fruit - fruit releases ethylene gas, which can shorten bloom life.

Single Cut / Gift Wrap Bouquet/ Letter-Box Flowers
Find a suitable container for your flowers, follow the instructions on the flower food we have supplied and make up the solution. Fill the container with the made-up solution. Remove any foliage on the stems that will sit below the water line.

Using a sharp pair of scissors or a knife, cut approximately 2-3 cm off the bottom end of the greenery at a 45-degree angle and place this in your container to create a frame for your flower. Repeat for the hardier and the more delicate flowers.  Flowers should start to bloom in the next 24-48 hours once they have begun to drink. Remember to refresh the water every 3-4 days and re-cut all the stems after you have done this.

Roses
Remove any discoloured petals on the rose outer edge (also known as protection petals). Treat as per the single stem guide. If the roses wilt, re-cut 2 cm from the bottom of the stem and then plunge the stems into deep water.

Hand-Tied Bouquet
If your tied bouquet has been delivered in water, pierce the cellophane film over the sink and drain the water, then undo the packaging. Find a suitable container for your flowers, follow the instructions on the flower food we have supplied, make up the solution and fill the container with the made-up solution. Using a sharp pair of scissors or a knife, cut approximately 2-3 cm off the bottom end of the stems at a 45-degree angle and place in your container. Refresh the water every 3-4 days.

Flower Arrangement
Your arrangement has been prepared and arranged in floral foam. There is no need to remove any of the stems from the foam. All you will need to do is check the water level 1-2 days and add if necessary.

Vase Arrangement
Your arrangement has been prepared and arranged in your vase. There is no need to remove any of the stems from the vase, as normally these would be tied to best display your flowers. The majority of the time, we supply your flowers with the minimal water level that is required to sustain your flowers. We ask that you add the supplied flower food and top up the water level to maintain your flowers, bearing in mind not to cover any foliage. Refresh the water every 3-4 days.

Plants
Normally, plants that we supply have their own care guide. Please refer to the individual guide that has been supplied with your plant or planted arrangement.
