Gift guide for Fathers Day 2020

Dad, Papa, Grandad – whatever you call the father figure in your life, it is your chance to say thanks a bunch for everything you do on Sunday 21st June. Father’s Day this year is going to be a bit different to previous years, with COVID-19 lockdown meaning families may not be able to celebrate in person.

But here at Magnolia the Florist we have plenty of ideas of gifts you can send and social distance activities you can do with the man of the moment to celebrate in style on Father’s Day 2020! We have picked out some of our favourite ones that are local to Kettering and Northamptionshire.

Plant Power

For a gardening mad dad, we recommend choosing one of our stylish plants from Magnolia the Florist range. We love one of our newbies – the Monstera Monkey Mask (whose official name is Monstera Adansonii) and is the brother of the well-known Swiss Cheese Plant.

Monstera Monkey Mask is cool looking, with holes in the middle of its large forest green leaves and just needs a splash of water weekly. Ideal for dad to enjoy in his office whilst working from home!

Our florists gift wrap the plant and deliver the gift to Kettering or surrounding local area – we are all set up for contactless delivery. Order before 3pm for same day delivery, perfect if you have left it a tad late for ordering a gift for Father’s Day.

Nuts about Brownies

If your Instagram is anything like ours, it has been full of images of flowers and gooey brownies during lockdown! Why not get your cooking apron on and roll up your sleeves and bake your Dad some delicious fresh brownies as a special gift?

You can really personalise the brownies by making your dad’s favourite flavour – checkout Sweetest Menu version of Snickers Chocolate Brownies or The Baking Explorer has a yummy Biscoff Brownie recipe. Make a batch for yourself too, and enjoy sampling them over Zoom together.

Mooch for a gift

One of our favourite little gift shops in Northampton is Mooch, a treasure trove of unusual gifts and local products. They have a fab range of Father’s Day cards and gifts online – everything from 80s Music quiz game, funky socks or cool beer accessories. If your Dad is a football fanatic, check out the David Sutter personalised shirts artwork for a really thoughtful touch.

The Mooch website is full of gifts that can be ordered online and delivered, or their shop at 33 Giles Street in Northampton will be reopening to customers (following COVID-19 guidelines) from Tuesday 16th June.

Crazy about Craft Beer

If your Father loves sampling craft beer and is missing going to his local pub, why not treat him to a selection of fine craft beers from local brewery Braybrooke Beer. Founded in 2017, they are based in the countryside near Market Harborough and brew proper lager.

For Father’s Day they have a mixed case of special lagers for £31 and offer free home delivery within 20 mile radius of the brewery!

Social stroll

A socially-distanced stroll on Father’s Day is lovely to get outside and enjoy the local countryside together. Northamptonshire Highways have a range of short local walk routes on their website, including one of our favourite spots to explore - Rothwell.

For even more of a treat, why not pre-order some Afternoon Tea treats from Vintage Fleur Tearoom in Kettering to take with you? They do some delicous finger sandwiches, classic cakes and are famous in Northamptionshire for their scones and cream. Takeaway Afternoon Tea is a bargain at just £10 per person, contact them directly to order!

Perfect Puzzle

During lockdown one of the things in high demand was the good old fashioned puzzle! We love these for hours of entertainment and something to enjoy when we have exhausted all Netflix has to offer.

For Father’s Day why not send him a jigsaw puzzle, we found a great 400 piece one of Kettering Town Football Club. ‘At the Game’ was an illustrated image by James Muddiman and captures the atmosphere of match day perfectly.
