Magnolia the Florist is 15 years old

November is a special month for Magnolia the Florist, as we celebrate the anniversary of opening our florist shop doors for the first time to the people of Northamptonshire. And this year we hit a mile stone – 15 whole years of being a local business!

The story behind Magnolia the Florist

Growing up in Northamptonshire, my roots are firmly here and I love the area and to me, its home. I always had a passion for creativity and at school I was constantly doodling designs on my school books or dreaming about colour palettes. By a stroke of good luck, I landed work experience placement with a local florist. Learning how to hand-condition stems, the excitement of unpacking fresh flower deliveries and chatting with the customers I fell in love with floristry – even the less glamorous side like cleaning buckets and the 4am starts. After graduating from college with a degree in floristry and gaining a few years’ experience in florist shops under my belt, it was time to jump in at the deep end.

In November 2003, after searching for the right shop in the local area, I opened Magnolia the Florist in Rothwell. I was over the moon to be my own boss and finally do the kind of stylish, modern floristry I wanted to be able to offer my customers. Over the years we gradually expanded, opening another branch in Corby in 2004 and then opening our flagship store in the heart of Kettering in 2008.

Magnolia the Florist turned digital in 2013, when we created our online website. A brilliant way to allow our customers to easily order 24/7, browse our product ranges and stay up to date with all our flower trends. In 2014 with shopping habits and high streets changing, we made the hard decision to close our 2 smaller branches and focus all our energy on our beautiful Kettering store and online shop.

I work with a brilliant team around me, who help create the Magnolia Magic. Garry is our Business Director and has worked at Magnolia the Florist for 15 years, and is a whizz on excel or delivering special flowers with a smile. Senior florist Julie has been with the business for 9 years and has over 30 years of experience in the floristry industry. We make a great team and love getting to know our local customers who drop in to the shop fo one of our bespoke bouquets, setting up special wedding flowers  or creating a heartfelt sympathy arrangement. 

My flower team and I have loved every minute of Magnolia the Florist and bringing fabulous flowers to the community of Kettering and surrounding local areas is our daily mission. I don’t know what the future holds, but here is to another 15 amazing years to come!
